A Miracle of Feather Love

As I sit here listening to my grey feather beauties chattering away...my favorite past time, thought I would write you all in the hopes you would allow me to share my love for parrots, knowing it will inspire you as well! It always brings a smile to my face hearing those happy sounds escaping out from the bird room. I feel it would be fun to inspire the "parrot" in you!

I have found bird people to be especially unique. We laugh together, cry together, learn and experience together, and help each other! Bird people stick together like peas in a pod! We are the ones who understand that parrots are actually humans dressed in feathers!

Owning a parrot is a "Labor of Love". Believe me, being owned by parrots (in our case, an all Grey flock) has its ups and downs. It certainly took a lot of hard work on our part AND their part, to get us where we are today. Even though my flock is incredible and they inspire me each and every day, they, too, have bad days, just as we do, and quite frankly, they are entitled to have a bad day. However, my greys have given me far more than I can ever repay.

What amazes me the most is the way all parrots give you a certain softness in your soul that no other can compete with. Intelligence and beauty all wrapped up in a feathered bundle of fluff!

A dear friend asked me this question: "Why Greys?" Giving this question a lot of thought, I found myself creating a checklist of sorts:

• Is it that beautiful white patch? When a Grey fully trusts you, they allow you the privilege of kissing it gently.
• Is it that they love to be the center of attention, by flying over to the counter and taking a bite out of the apple they have been "eyeing" up all day?
• Is it how they make you fall in love with them each and every day just a little bit more because of who they are and what they do to make you laugh, and feel better when you are down and out?
• Is it how they squawk when you come home from a long days work and they excitedly await for you to take them out of their cage and kiss them all over?
• Is it how they waddle on the floor, trying to be discreet, seeking you out- when they know they can fly to find you?
• Is it how they live to spend every waking moment with you, because they LOVE you more than food itself?
• Is it how they tell you "I LOOOOOOOOVE YOU!" in a sweet voice just so they can get the attention from you when you are busy kissing their siblings?
• Is it how they beg you for food? When you know their belly is jam packed with food, but yet when you reach into the cabinet you hear the words, "WANT SOME?!" emanating from the bird room!
• Is it how they just know when you are driving up the road, and they announce your arrival by using their "call for you"?
• Is it how they long for you to come home, waiting by the window looking out, knowing that it’s time for mama or papa to arrive?
• Is it how they all at once, land on you, when you walk in the door and you didn’t even take your coat off yet, because they’re so excited you are home?
• Is it how you find yourself making their sounds during the day and realizing THEY have YOU trained and not the adverse?
• Is it that you find yourself anxious to get home and kiss that pearly white patch and watch it turn pink because they love you wholeheartedly?!

OK, so "Why Greys"? I could go on and on! I just simply worship everything about them! They truly are my Miracles of Feather Love!
